Navigating Medicare can be tricky, and the costs can add up, especially for those on a fixed income. If you're a New Jersey resident struggling with Medicare expenses, you might be eligible for a Medicare Savings Program (MSP). These state-administered programs can significantly reduce your out-of-pocket costs, making healthcare more affordable.

What are Medicare Savings Programs in New Jersey?

New Jersey offers four federal MSPs, each with its own set of eligibility requirements:

  • Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) Program:
    • In NJ, this program covers Medicare Part A and Part B premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance.
    • This means virtually no out-of-pocket costs for Original Medicare services.
  • Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB) Program:
    • This program helps pay for Medicare Part B premiums in New Jersey.
  • Qualifying Individual (QI) Program:
    • Also assisting with Part B premiums, QI has slightly higher income limits than SLMB.
    • It is important to know that this program is funded on a first come first served basis.
  • Qualified Disabled and Working Individuals (QDWI) Program:
    • This program helps pay for Part A premiums for certain disabled individuals who have returned to work and lost their free Part A coverage.
