Medicare Supplement Plan D
Many Medicare-eligible individuals find that even the most comprehensive of Medicare Advantage plans may not adequately cover their health care costs. Medicare supplement, or "Medigap", plans exist to give Medicare recipients the extra coverage they need. These types of supplement plans help with out-of-pocket costs that patients struggle with, such as coinsurances, copayments, and deductibles.
Medicare Supplement or "Medigap" Plan D is the only plan available for NJ residents who are under 65 years old (as of 1/1/2020) and qualify for Medicare due to disability. If the individual was eligible for Medicare prior to 1/1/2020 due to disability, and under 65 years old, they would be limited to Medigap Plan C only until their 65th birthday.
Special Notes about Medigap Plan D & Turning 65
Medigap Plan D would remain in force (as long as the individual continues to pay the premiums) until the individual turns 65. At that time, the individual may shop the market for a different Medicare Supplement plan, with a lower monthly premium, and with no health questions asked for 6 months from their 65th Birthday.
